Location: Tokyo Metropolitan Area (Dispatch from Regional Base / On-Site across Kanto)
Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience (¥4.5M – ¥6.5M annually) + Overtime Allowance + Field Service Allowances + Commuting Coverage
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled, hands-on Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our technical operations team in Tokyo. In this off-site, field-focused role, you will travel directly to customer job sites, construction zones, logistics hubs, and infrastructure project sites across the Kanto region to perform diagnosis, maintenance, and emergency repairs on heavy machinery.
You will be responsible for ensuring high machine uptime and operational safety, serving as the technical face of our company on location.
Key Responsibilities
Field Maintenance & On-Site Repair
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance, mechanical inspections, and oil/filter changes on heavy machinery (e.g., excavators, loaders, forklifts, cranes, generators) at client sites.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical failures using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
- Perform emergency on-site component repairs, hose replacements, and engine/transmission overhauls to minimize customer downtime.
Technical Documentation & Safety Compliance
- Complete accurate service reports (Sagyō Hōkokusho), parts order requests, and maintenance logs following each site visit.
- Strict compliance with Japanese Industrial Safety and Health Act (Anzen Eisei Hō) standards, client site safety protocols, and proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage.
- Coordinate with central dispatch and technical support managers regarding parts availability, job status, and repair timelines.
Client Communication & Equipment Care
- Explain technical issues, required repairs, and maintenance recommendations directly to site managers and equipment operators on location.
- Maintain field service vehicles, specialized diagnostic machinery, and tools in safe, clean, and organized working condition.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 3+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic, heavy equipment technician, or construction/industrial machinery specialist in Japan.
- Certifications (Japan):
- Valid Japanese Driver’s License (Ordinary or Medium/Heavy Vehicle License depending on service truck requirements).
- Construction Machinery Repairing Technician (Kensetsu Kikai Seibi Shinōshi) or Automobile Mechanic License (Jidōsha Seibishi) is strongly preferred.
- Mobile Crane, Forklift, or Slinging (Tamagake) certifications are a significant advantage.
- Language Proficiency:
- Japanese: Conversational to Business level (sufficient to understand technical manuals, speak with Japanese site managers, and complete service logs).
- English: Basic to Conversational (a plus for international equipment documentation or team coordination, but not mandatory).
- Physical & Operational Requirements: High physical durability, willingness to work in outdoor field environments in varying weather conditions, and flexibility to handle on-call or shift-based field calls.
Technical Competencies
- Strong working knowledge of hydraulic schematics, auto-electrics (12V/24V systems), and diesel engine mechanics.
- Experience with major equipment brands (e.g., Komatsu, Caterpillar, Hitachi, Kubota, Toyota Forklifts).
